Crowford High School
San Diego

Crawford is an inner-city urban high school with a diverse ethnic population; many students are recent immigrants More than 60 percent of these students participate in the Chapter I learning program. A successful Business Administration magnet here is part of the district's voluntary integration program. Students and staff blend very well to provide a productive and pleasant atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning. Crawford is a high school with pride and purpose.

David LeMay, principal, and Martha Kuss, library media teacher.
Through strong administrative leadership and support from principal David LeMay, Crawford has secured four CD-ROM work stations featuring encyclopedias and indexing software. These are available for student research, along with access to online databases and electronic bulletin boards:

The next step will be implementation of an online catalog with key word search capabilities. Staff development is provided to assist teachers in becoming, comfortable with these new technologies.

Partnerships between the library media teacher and the teachers of core curriculum courses (English-language arts, mathematics, science, and history-social science) provide additional individual attention for students as they work on learning projects in the library media center. A variety of materials and activities are used to meet differing learning styles.
